In-House Competition Interest?

Before I begin, here's the real thing:

Thought I'd see if there's any interest in something like this. Before I joined TWC me and a few mates would set up combative employment tests that emulate competitions such as the international army games, as well as competitive training and selection exercises. We'd use live rounds just like in the competitions, and the themes would encompass:

Advanced driving: Demonstrating situational awareness by driving a large armoured vehicle through an obstacle course without the aid of a commander. Penalty points for hitting the boundary cones. Second, tighter course for testing team communication and ability with the aid of a commander.

Stalking/shooting: The first judge stands on top of a hill next to a target, and he has binoculars. The competitors have a certain time to leave the starting point and take up a concealed shooting position without being seen, where they will signal that they are ready. If judge 1 sees them at any point, he talks judge 2 onto the shooter with a quad bike until he says 'shooter at your feet'. If the shooter's at his feet then that shooter is out. If the shooter does make it to a position without being spotted then he is then asked to fire a round at the target. If he cannot hit the target on his first shot then he is either out or penalised, depending on the ruleset. Points on success are either a 1/0 or a +/- from a desired range.

CQB: 3-gun style course set up with targets, shoot routes and obstacles. Points for accuracy and time. Extra style earned by making it a 1v1 style arena with mirrored courses and a heat system.

We had a few other competitions that we'd do, but you get the idea. Is there any interest in us doing this within TWC, and how would we go about doing it? In my mind, I can think of competition courses for the following disciplines:

Shooting
Section movement
mortar use
Vehicle employment(driving/gun/command):
warrior
challenger 2
harrier
apache
wildcat (weapons employment and landing accuracy)

That's the basics of what I can think of, and it's doable on a single map in a single evening, and would take about the same amount of time as our regular operations. I've found while doing it with my own guys that it's a great way to increase skills in a non-training environment. I'd be more than happy to make it myself, but I thought it would be best to see if anyone's interested or if it's even allowed. If it's done as an op then the rolesheet would be exactly the same as usual but with extra attachments, so people sign up for a single role and are living spectators for the rest, with some form of vehicular transportation between sites available, either via available cars or a designated bus service (trans heli pilots eat your heart out). If we did all of the competitions above with no role duplicates that gives us about 40 slots with 2-3 teams per competition, so I recommend allowing everyone to take infantry+ 1x special role, which puts it right around the 25-30 mark.

i did a bit of this when i was a trainer , we tried the cqb course and i think it went down pretty well (init bose hahahaha ), also instead of using AI as targets i would use actual people who were training , example :

5 guys would be training , so 3 of them + me the trainer , would go into the "kill house" as targets ...we would then rotate to see who can clear the house the quickest , best and most efficient - also testing what they have just learnt ....

i did the same with the sniper training , but not as "proper" - was more of just a mock test of shooting a guy from distance

not sure how it would work for veicles , maybe ask ghsotie ? as he was the veicle trainer ?...

but yea nice idea , like i say we have tried some of this , from what i expereinced players wernt really bothered about the "scoring system" and it was just a bit of "fun" to add to training , with a good actual purpose lol and a bit of pvp....

i found that the competion side of things , when discussed wasnt really needed inside the TWC group i think there was some fear of arguments , or just causing conflict when it's not needed ....im all game fot it tho ....twc best sniper and cqb me mate lol i love a bit of competition

edit : i dunno if it would work as a seperate event like u have menctioned , i found it was better incorperated into training sessions due to the whole role sheet sign up b.s ect , that seems a bit long winded , but it could work , but i think it be better to apply to training and also encourage more people to attend training sessions ....

but if im honest im pretty sure "most" trainers will have some sort of system like this that they currently use after each training session to test the trainees , so yea have a chat with them first befroe creating anything becasue like i said , we had kill houses , heli tests , driving ect ect

i remember one of the tasks for a pilot was to control a broken heli and land lol ...so yea the reason i have explained so much is becasue i think it co insides with your request and that i think we currently already do this, kind of ...to a point lol

What I'm suggesting isn't intended as a training tool since by definition the trainees are new to the material. This is for guys to really find out who's got the better skills in a certain area, as well as how they got those skills and be better next time. For example the sniper competition would not involve just shooting a target because that would be boring. Instead we'd do what the real guys do, which is a long shoot followed by a heli shoot, where the shooters are in a heli either hovering or performing an orbit around a target.

I had a chat with the guys on ts last night and the feedback was positive, pub mentioned that if in house competition works then it would make great publicity if we opened it up to other communities to compete every 6 months or so.

yea man im up for that no harm in some competition , i like the ideas u have aswell can u list some more specific 1's ? like the sinper one u said thats good geeeez

edit : id also like to ask aswell would there be small "rules" in place ? my example would be like driving ...u dont need a commander to drive lol or a gunner 1 person can do all lol IN ARMA...but i think thats only becasue your able to "turn out" and things , maybe if these controls were more restircted it could make things more challenging/better ? like having to drive and look through that small ass screen inside the veicle lol ....

and also your shooting/stalking version dont really work with arma textures and what the game offers ...i swear i can spot anyone ...lol just takes a minute haha

These are some good points, but I think what we should really aim for is a "Cambrian patrol-esque " type of competition, whilst retaining these point

I think there is some great potential here and would be better suited on a Saturday night op slot.

I will gladly jump on TS to develop this idea further as I simply have too much to write down here atm!

While you are welcome to discuss this matter further, nothing will be replacing Operations on Saturdays.

If you arrive at a playable mission I can put it on the operations server when it's not needed (basically every day of the week but saturday).

How about a pre production meet tonight around 1900 ish? I've started putting some stuff down on celle2 since it seemed to be best for our purposes with space near the airbase for ranges up to and above 2km and massive hangars for cqb or any other stuff that we need a big enclosed space for.

We'll put something together and run it ourselves as an event on sunday or somesuch.

@Saxon - Rgr, but I think it would benefit as running as a proper event (Like weekend warrios). Section skills will need a minimum of... a section, for it would be worthwhile/effective. It would also stop it being as big a bleed on the public server

i dont think that giving people " prizes " would be a bad thing forrest geez , i mean if u was to give out a t.s badge for completing summin , or a badge or different logo for a week on website , i think this is a small thing but mite also encourage players to play ....i mean if i saw a snazzy badge or summin id want one lol

i think we should discuss the best way to host it ? i believe it would be better for us ( TWC ) to use this along side training rather than a seperate event ...

ok cool i still stand by what i say , it will be better suited , more rewarding, easier to immplement, more benificial and just a whole lot better hosted in the training area ...

that's my opinion , if im honest i dont see the point otherwise , just seems like a bit of fun (which is what mite be your sole intenction) but you could have all that fun in the public so what would be the point in all this malarky.... i would want it to mean something...more than wiki page i wont read or a forum post hahaha ...

to me it just seems better...sorry gang lol
