Here are some links to some very dry reading, albeit very interesting about US army SOPs in the past ten years

Well this stuff is modern day so as long as we don't find something from the appropriate era...
That beeing said we can and should only go so far with different doctrines. I mean we already have the layout so really we are bound to do things slightly differently in MMOs, if only because we have to adapt to the new layouts. I don't know how it was handled in the Army back then but considering your 'squad' is five guys and the machine-gun 'team' just two fire-team bounding doesn't seem like a good idea anymore (especially in the jungles) and you'd have to rely more on the MG-Team for covering while the squads maneuvre.

I think there is a lot of really useful information in that guide that everyone at TWC could benefit from reading.

It is very interesting also to read that the javelin can be issued on a squad level to a rifleman as well as that the Designated marksman doesn't necessarily have a DMR some things I never thought would be SOP but are. Additionally the PLT structure is very different and quite interesting as they have 4 sections instead of 3 as the British have . ( 3 Maneuvering Squads and 1 Weapons Squad). All of that is just from a quick 5 minute skim read.

Also you will see it reference other documents throughout all the SOPs which can be found really easily by googling the document it is referencing. For example if I was to google FM 3-21.8 it would take to me that document.

I think I will read more on this when I get home.

IF only there was a British equivalent of this.

I love reading stuff like this, because they'll also sometimes go into known enemy tactics and doctrine. It's a good base of knowledge for mission making, I think.

Sadly Will, the British Army Electronic Battle Box will largely stay hidden for us plebs. Though there's some documents out there already, largely COIN, from a high level view point.
