public server clientside FPS

So just now I logged on excited to finally get some decent playtime on the public server, however once deployed my FPS was so low I had to DC before even linking up with my squad.
I know performance is subject to many variables and settings but I would like to get an idea of what the rest of you are experiencing.

my specs:

CPU : i5 4430

GPU: R9 270x

8GB Ram

I turned the settings down low and was experiencing 18FPS in an urban environment, with around 15 players online.

I am aware of most of the known fixes or tweaks , and that my system isn't all that but im still very curious to see how playable this is for you guys.

Thanks

Brendan

Edit: in my last op I was getting 30-60, In training around 60-90. If anyone knows what it is about the server that wrecks my PC that would be awesome

Altis as a map tends to cause low ish FPS. But its also somewhat server side FPS. Due to how arma server to client model is set the client cant go about server FPS. But at same time low ish server FPS causes client FPS to be lower.

For example lets say the server is running at 30 FPS the client with a MAXED machine will only ever get 25-30 fps. In the new 1.4 version of arma coming out sometime this week they are improving the server module. This should improve client and server side FPS.

There is many other things that play into the Client to server FPS and the main things that can cause this is basically all server side. So Scripts,Map,Amount of AI,View Distance,Specs on server ... ect ect.

As a note i get stable 30fps on the server. My specs are the following. I7-4770k, 16GB ram and 2x 970's. As a note i run the game at 3440 x 1440. (Resolution can take a HUGE part in FPS as well.)

Thanks for the reply Matty, the fact that you hit 30 FPS with your system is reassuring.

Yer but like i said its based on server side performance. So i even sometimes take a massive hit to fps due to server.

One thing to consider is ramping up your resolution, which shifts some of the work over to your GPU. I play at 4K (i7 & GTX980) and I get around 40fps most of the time.

Cheers.

Yer but that doesn't shift any of the load it just adds load to the GPU. The load on the CPU is still pretty much the same. When the server first went up i got solid 60fps but as things have changed and scripts adjusted FPS has gone down to avg of around 30. I do also run at 150% sampling.

It does like i said all depends on the server for the most part. but performance does also scale depends on server fps everything for next put is a example.

Server FPS = Client FPS
60 = 50-60
50 = 40-50
40 = 30-40
30 = 20-30

Sadly I only got one session in over the weekend and I was getting 12 to 20 FPS.  Barely playable.  However when I finished I ran a quick test where I rebooted my PC and this time I was getting around 30 FPS. OK, that was just walking round the base but it was definitely more than I had before.

I had been playing ArmA 2 before so I am not sure if that was upsetting my system.

For the record:
CPU: i5 3.4 GHz
RAM: 8GB (not the fastest).
Graphics: Nvidia GTX 650 Ti

Seems to play the single player game fine.  S

Yer like i was stating in earlier post FPS is based on server side and scales if the server fps is low. You machine should be able to handle arma 3 fine its more server side. But with the changes brought out yesterday avg fps server side went up about 5-10.

The issue is at the moment management are not concentrating on optimising the mission we are concentrating on the content of it primarily. It will get better over time but it is all about prioritising what needs to  be done. If we were to make the mission run at 60FPS there would be very little variation in the AO's and the AI's behaviour i.e they wouldn't flank you. Additionally there wouldn't be as many vehicles at base,  or as many slots available.

Trust me it will get better bit by bit but sadly these things take time and do not happen overnight after all we have had to start from scratch so there was always going to be some teething issues.

For those of you wondering the average sever FPS at the moment is 35 with 20 Players on according to the logs although please take this with a large pinch of salt.

My specs:

i7-3820 @3.6 GHz
3GB 780TI Windforce
16GB RAM

I run my graphics all on ultra at a resolution of 2560x1080 at solid 60FPS. For me the FPS goes down as I increase the view distance and the object distance, it decreases FPS dramatically. Another issue is the PIP setting, when on ultra and in a vehicle it halfs my FPS so I have the PIP set to high to maintain a high FPS in vehicles, hope this helps!

Thunder we talking about when connected to the server. For my i also get solid 60fps in single player but when connected to server it goes down to what the server is operating at.

yes , runs like a dream in single player and on more optimised or un-modded servers.

for those interested this is the best optimisation guide I have found (trust me I've spent hours upon hours looking) . it lists all of the commonly known tweaks out there

I was getting 40-55 yesterday when i logged on, 20-30 by the end of the Pyrgos AO. Server was restarted just before i joined according to the chat box. There is no baseline level of performance to go by yet until work is finished on the mission. A ton of factors to consider, I just needed to confirm it was server side before investigating on my end
