Advanced Medical on Public

After getting some experience with the advanced Medical System over the past few Operations I think we can put it on the public too.
The following will be enhanced by the Advanced Medical:
  • Realism: At least on the website we pride ourselfs with offering the greatest realism possible, yet I think that statement is plain wrong if we still use the Basic medical
  • Survivability: This may just be my perception but I have the feeling that the Basic Medical yields higher casualties, whereas Advanced usually leaves the option of bringing someone back from the brink of death
  • Gameplay: This one is a bit of a stretch but I think a harsher medical system will encourage people to value their life a bit more, thus forcing unit cohesion and teamplay. Especially so since you usually need someone else to patch you up when unconcious, so people won't just run off without their team

The following are some points I want to disprove:
  • Accessibility: Let's be realistic here, the number of completely public players (i.e. Non-Members/Recruits) is fairly low and even those may know about the advanced medical, so people not knowing what to do shouldn't happen (especially considering it's not that complicated in the first place, see the next point)
  • Complexity: The Advanced Medical (at least the setting we have in Operations) is still fairly tame. As long as you bandage a wound it doesn't matter all that much what bandage you apply, some are just more effective than others. Morphine is admittedly a bit problematic here but so far unless someone is shot unconcious you can almost always apply it without concern.

There is however one thing that is rather important: Enable PAKs for the Medic to use anywhere. As much as I like realistic medical proceedure, heading back to base is something that, for the sake of gameplay, shouldn't happen all that often on the public.

No it would be a huge huge step backwards, look at the current players we are getting on the public they out number members, its hard enough to get people to set up never mind play the game. Please no thanks.

I am in favour of this idea. I think there is often the view that the advanced medical system would slow things down. As has been stated however, it could have the consequence of actually speeding things up as it improves survivability rates.

I like this. But is there a way to make the AI still use the Basic medical? It's kinda dumb that people have to keep shooting the "dead" enemy for another 5 seconds to make sure he doesn't come back up after taking a machine gun burst to the chest. Like we saw yesterday in the operation.

That's a valid point Cal, however we don't have the man power or the patience to explain the medical system to new players.

It is possible, although I think shooting until they ragdoll is a bad habit for a milsim group.

I love this idea. The medical system on the public right now is not one bit fun for medics. Or anyone for that matter.

Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing. I've been really enjoying the advanced medical in Ops, and having it in public would make medic roles much more fun.

Yeh would agree there is a floor in the medical system as its instant death with basic or prolonged death with the advanced system, is there no compromise to keeping it simple?

I don't quite know what one could compromise on Kieran.
Like I tried to point out, the 'Advanced' Medical is still reasonably simple. As long as someone isn't in a trauma state (unconscious and heavy bleeding) the proceedure are the same as normally: Bandage yourself till the bleeding stops, apply morphine.
Sure the bandaging is a tad bit more complex but every bandage can be used for every wound, just with leveling degrees of effectivness. The application of morphine is also rather trivial, only with weak vitals (i.e. shot unconscious) it can be a bit risky but if it comes to that the medic should be on station anyway, knwoing what to do.

The worst case is not so much dying itself as that's a rather trivial matter on the public anyway, but moreso being locked unconcsious. The best solution here would be to have a timer of say 30 seconds after which someone can decidde to respawn. This will make it impossible that people just respawn after they get unconscious, so the medica has time to attend to them while also leaving the option to respawn if rescue is impossible or highly unlikely, say because the medic is far away or dead etc.

Additionally you could put some disclaimers at base like "Don't apply morphine unless given permission by the medic" so new people know what and what not to do.

Management have decided that this system will be put in place soon. Medics will be able to do a full patch up in the field.
