[SUGGESTION] Add 2d CHOICE for scopes

I've been at it with managment for months about this and i feel i should make an official post about this, despite the denial that has endured so far:

I would like for both Public Server and Private Ops to have 2d scopes available as an alternative to their 3D counterpart, for those who wish.


As ArmA progressed from alpha and more mods have been released 3d scopes have been introduced, now you feel "closer" to your weapon as you don't see plain black outside the scope itself and can admire the details of your stock; it seemd enjoyable at first but after a very short while I got fed up with it as it is far from how it looks IRL and halves down my effectiveness with the weapon compared to its 2d version.

Here is a list of what's worng with it to me:
  1. Kills the frames : I always felt that the frames were worst while aiming downsights and MikeMatrix confirmed that the code behind it it's poorly written in the way it loads forward objects.
  2. It's gamebreaking : I have a TrackIr and I can look away from the scope while aiming, which gives me an unnatural 4X naked eye magnification which is the sign of a terribly designed product even before the code; yu can also twist your head in such a way that, while aiming on the upper reflex you can look thorugh the main scope and see that it is merely a tube with a piece of common glass in it: no bending of the lens or magnification of the image.
  3. It's less efficient : This might be more personal but I noticed that I hit the target 40% more times with a 2d scope, I think everybody noticed a difference with the new russian units (the ip29 is a BOMB!); wich leads me to often scavange marksman scopes/ m145 mgo scopes
  4. Doesn't look good : I have aimed down plenty of IRL scopes: (iron sights, holo, CCO, Swarovski's 2x scope for steyr AUG, and even 9x scopes of different lens size) and i can tell you these 3d scopes are FAR AWAY from reality: First of all it feels like looking down the barrel of a cannon: a correctly positioned eye only sees the image in the lens: not the black insides of it; then come all of the silly effects they added to it in an effort to compensate the disastrous aspects: like the random lightrays that appear on it in a more random way than if they were in a kaleidoscope; it doesn't even have the blurr effect that simulates eye focus of aiming with one eye.

With that being said i must remember that i AM NOT asking for a removal of the 3ds, but merely the implementation of the second one for those who request it. 

Adding the option is a piece of cake: add it to the crate of the public in the classes loadouts that have them and put them in the usual bincular crate that we always have to spawn, so only command elements have acces to them and give them to their subordinates who wish to.

The fact squid made a nicely structured thread makes me give him support.

But yes I agree with what squid is saying and would be nice to see added. I for one will be sticking with the 3D but eitherway it would be nice to have added.

nice squid all i can say is :

what modpack are they in ?
and is that mod in our repo ?
did the change from 2d to 3d have a valid reason ? (broke ect ect)
hint: for future reference add the relevant links when making a request geeeez

@Jeff i didn't put no links becuse they are currently present in the repo, they are the same 3CB scope from the same modpack. the reason why it changed initailly I don't know but i guess because it looked good.

Same goes for RCO and SUSAT scopes: all 3CB and all have 2d version

I strongly support this, the 3CB 3d stuff is just awful (together with their holo sights, compare the 3CB to the RHS holo, i dare you)

I also agree entirely... for anyone who has spent half their bloody life staring down various scopes, its clear that the 3D ones are utter rubbish.

If I had known there was a 2D option I would have made this post myself! (though probably less well worded and significantly less politically correct!)

Is there a major drama in giving people the 2D option?

I volunteer to do the simple code for public and figure out a script for swithcing like ACE2 did with silencers but I need the all clear first.

I have hardly any knowledge of scripting but maybe make it possible to have it via the ACE Self-interaction Menu -> Equipment -> Change scope, akinf to what we have for the sleeves? I personally have no problem with eitehr but I think this is really the only way we can do this, making them available in the Ammobox will be WAY to much of a hassle.

why would it be too much hassel to add to the ammo box ? i mean everything else seems to be added easily....

im sure all we would need to do is give the correct class names for each scope ? ... that's how it's been for everything else that's been requested to add...

and dont u think it's a bit silly having 98% of equipment in the box and then just adding a 2d scope to ace interaction ? ...that would look odd if u ask me
