Important: mission health

As far as I’m aware, public is currently 100% free of bugs or issues that are not caused by arma itself (AI pathfinding, glitching through stairs, ammobox glitching etc). This applies to all missions across domination, insurgency and siege. That means we’re not aware of any script, loadout or other errors that are currently active. Obviously this is a very good thing and I’m proud to have put so much time into this over the last months and finally got to this state. What I ask of you guys is that you please inform me of any bugs, new or old, in the bug forum, since there are no issues that I currently know of. Obviously only report them if you see them past the date of this posting.

We’re trialling a new version of the ragdoll code we tested a few weeks back, initial results from tonight’s game are looking very positive. What this does is put both players and AI into ragdoll when they fall unconscious, so the enemies no longer snap into the unconscious pose and players getting hit looks brutal.

Now that my time is freed up I’m starting design work on our competition side, where players will be able to compete in team and individual contests to test the various skills that the game demands in a fun environment. Here’s the current event outline, these will appear over multiple evenings where everyone can choose what to spectate/compete in:

Tank Biathlon:

Dismounted tactics: teams of 3 are dropped by APC in an unknown location, with the task of navigating to and retrieving an item while under fire without GPS based aids.

Snap shooting: 3-gun style, contestant will run to a location then identify and engage close range targets while being timed.

Specialist weapons proficiency (timed): GMG accuracy, AT accuracy, underslung grenade launcher accuracy, sniper rifle accuracy.

FST proficiency (timed): identify and navigate to a suitable location and bring mortar rounds down onto a designated target area.

This will be done on event nights where 2-3 categories will be selected, and there’ll be a rolesheet like ops where contestants will sign up to team events (individual based comps will not require signup) and leaderboards for the different events will be made available after each event. Suggestions and designs for other categories are welcome, they just need to test skills that we use ingame and be done in some form irl.

Congrats on the bug free-ness etc

Once we have tested the format, would we consider running the event on a larger scale/opening it to other groups to compete in?

Also, there seems to be a lot of weapons skills being tested. I do not know what is technically/gameplay possible, but I thought of some other "stands"/scenario's

Medical evac (under light contact)
IED Threat lane clearance.
Vehicle recovery

I think they should be less about their individual technical skill and more about their ability to work within a team, and to expand that teams capabilities as a whole. I don't think there should be any tests on an individual level. If one were inclined to experience that sort of competition, I would personally suggest other games better suited for it.

I really like the idea of the FST Mortar, sniper team & orienteering one for the aforementioned reason. I think the snap shooting one could be interesting if it's a FIBUA course clear timed thing (although I think this in ArmA is more due to their computer/connection than their individual skill at times). I think the GMG/UGL accuracy will be meh at best.

It would be nice if the AT was a two man Carl Gustav/Milan team, that was how many they as a team can take out in a set time period, so there's still a strong element of accuracy, but also puts emphasis on the gunner/loader synergy - with a point deduction for failing to clear backblast etc. Maybe the GMG could be a FST SF team, which incorporates the set up of the weapon and relocation of it.

@Chaza: Given the difficulties faced when trying to arrange to play with a group, I don't think it'll ever happen, even if there was 110% support for it here. There isn't that, either. I think it's a nice little thing for us to do that'll help people here work together better, but honestly, would be incredibly cringy to do with other groups. I'm not here to boast about some virtual testosterone, which is absolutely what that'll turn into. I'm concerned that'll happen internally too, but we can at least meme them out for doing that.
