New Helicopter Spawn System

Suggested by freez, heli pilots now get their helis by going to the spawner. This is a handy workaround for the respawn bugs and allows more helis to be available than what can fit on base, so options have been added for the native force’s helis as well. The spawner will only show options for helis that are available at the current playercount, and the playercount requirement for manning the helis is much lower. Only 3 players are required to fly everything up to apache’s and cobras, and then 7 for those. To spawn them you need:

Utility (Huey, Gazelle): 3
Transport (Chinook, Mi-8, Blackhawk, Merlin): 5
CAS (Wildcat, Venom, Hind): 7
Attack (Apache, Cobra): 10

(the Hind is under CAS because the Wildcat is more capable every way, it’s a very early version of the Hind)

The spawner has cooldowns for each category, which are deliberately punishing to offset how easy it is to get them in the first place. These are:
Utility: 1 hour
Transport: 1 hour
Cas: 2 hours
Attack: 48 hours

As an example, if you take out a gazelle and it dies in half an hour, it'll be another half hour before you can spawn another utility heli. If it survives to the full hour you can spawn a second utility heli as well. Spawning any heli adds 10 minutes to a global timer as well, so if you spawn a chinook it will be 10 minutes before you can spawn a gazelle for example.

There is an option to return the heli in ace interactions, this is available to the person that spawned it as long as they're in base. If this is done within 2 minutes you can instantly spawn another, otherwise it’s a 1 minute cooldown to deter people treating it like a walk in wardrobe.

Be aware that arma’s positional checking for spawning vehicles is crap and doesn't take the rotors into account, so make sure there are no vehicles near the heli before spooling up. We found out in testing yesterday that sometimes it doesn’t anything into account, so make sure there are no vehicles on the pad before spawning at all. Also modders aren’t always the smartest so the FFV seats in the Hind are restricted to the crewchief only, which annoys me intensely but the alternative is that any old rifleman can fly it, same problem as the blackhawk. I tried using the numerical index for each seat that the modders set up separately, but it turns out they weren’t set up properly either.

On the plus side, I figured out how to modify vehicle loadouts so the helis that have dynamic loadouts now all spawn with correct kit for their operators. The Cobra has ACE hellfires and rockets, the Apache has ACE hellfires and rockets, and the Hind has barrel bombs and gunpods. We’ll do some testing of the ACE hellfires soon, as googling indicates they might have some issues that make the normal hellfires more reliable. In my own personal testing this was fine, but it did require switching the forward observer’s laser designator from the CUP to the 3CB variant since it didn’t work, and the attack helis have been switched from CUP to RHS versions for the same reason.

Also, we tested the PG variant of the Wildcat today on public, with external and self laser designation. Minimum range for accurate hit is 1000m, maximum range is more than 1500m. It likes to be at lower firing altitude, otherwise it’ll have trouble catching the lase. The hellfires are much better in this regard, they have lock on after lase (LOAL) functionality so it’s much more reliable.

Question regarding the spawner - Is that timer global, or a per-slot timer?

Doesn't this mean that the incompetence misfortunes of another pilot would punish the other pilots who log in?

Just in case you didn't know, with the TANKS DLC, Vanilla GBU-12s are also LOAL guided and target the nearest laser in sight, i'm not sure how far the Paveways of other mods are in the implementation of LOAL mode. also unsure how ACE's laser codes interact with vanilla and other mods' bombs and missiles
