Conflict Overview Since the ISIS uprising in Iraq, the Iraqi Army has been losing ground to ISIS. With the involvment of NATO, the situation has changed in Iraqi favor. With the start of NATO air strikes, the Iraqi Army retook over 70 % of the captured territory. NATO sent in ground troops to assist the Iraqi Army in the past few months. Operation Machariel is a joint Iraqi-UK operation in retaking critical areas of operation in the Muthania region of Iraq.
Recent Events Operation Machariel has been approved by NATO High Command and is on it's way. Iraqi forces have already begain their attacks in the eastern and western province of the Muthania region, leaving us the central province which is the Fata province.
