1972, following the Soviet invasion British forces successfully destroyed multiple bridges over the river Aller during Operation DELUGE, halting the Soviet advance. With the Soviet shock armies now stuck, bogged down in Germany, SHAPE has designated a 3-pronged counter-attack into Eastern-Europe to pin down, isolate, and destroy these armies. While a naval mission and landing captures the vital port of Gdansk in Western-Poland, land forces will move into Czechoslovakia and Hungary due to the relative light defences there.
While these assaults will hopefully cut off the Soviet armies from their homeland, a counter-assault directly through Germany should pin down these armies and destroy them.
Because of unexpectedly heavy resistance around Celle, the combined forces of the British I Corps and the German I Corps were stretched thin during Operation LANCER. While we still managed to cross the Aller we couldn't advance past it quite as far as planned. With the bridgeheads firmly established, we can now push towards and past the second Soviet defensive line. While Bergen will be taken by an armoured Element, we are to break through the Soviet line near Bonstorf and capture the airfield near Fassberg which is currently used for logistics and as a base for enemy attack helicopters.
We expect these helicopters to be currently operating elsewhere and it is likely that the logistical elements operating here will have left before our forces arrive there but we can not be sure of that, so far the Soviets have been reluctant in giving up even a single meter.
