Operation SNARE
World War 2 Dismounted

Era: Late World War 2
Forcetype: Dismounted
Vehicles: Trucks for initial transportation
Attachment: HMG-Team (2x Vicker MG)

Operation Start:  07:30 29. January 1945
Current Weather: Overcast
Map: Ardennes 1944

Conflict Overview:
Four years after we had been driven off from it, Overlord had secured us an enterey into Hitlers 'Fortress Europe' and the subsequent victorious battles in Normandy and the rest of France made us confident of a quick victory in Europe. However the failure of our Airborne Forces in the Netherlands during Operation Market Garden made us warry that the beast we thought to have had defeated still had some fight left in it. This winter, our American brothers in arms faced the full might of this supposed 'dead' animal. Once again German Panzers rolled over the ardennes and dealt a heavy blow to our forces.

However, Hitlers gamble didn't pay off. With the war entering it's sixth year we halted the German advance. Now is the time to reclaim the positions we have lost in the German attack, get ready to cross the Siegfried Line and ultimatly bring down the Nazi war machine which raged through Europe for the last years.

Recent Events:
Our Division has recently arrived at the river Meuse, which we had first crossed in 1944. During our retreat before the German advance we managed to destroy the two main bridges in the region, hampering the German advance. Given the time they had however, German pioneers errected a pontoon bridge which now supplies their forces on the left bank of the river.

Command has decided to take the pontoon bridge, both to cut off the German forces on our side of the river and to secure a crossing over the Meuse to further pursue the enemy. While the rest of the battalion will hold of the German armoured Forces in the village north of the pontoon bridge, while our company will move through the forrest and secures the pontoon bridge itself. Our Platoon will move take the most direct route to take both sides of the pontoon bridge (to maike sure it doesn't get destroyed by German engineers), while our sister platoons secure our flanks. In order to enable a crossing, an artillery barrage is scheduled at 9:15 to mostly destroy the German forces on the otehr side of the river. It will also deploy a smoke screen around the pontoon bridge to allow for a clear crossing.

-Take the pontoon bridge
