The last decade has been escalation after escalation regarding the IRA and Ireland, with fierce clashes becoming an almost weekly occurrence. British forces have been multiplied within Ireland to protect Britain’s sovereignty and her citizens, but most importantly in a bid to restore order within her realm. Unfortunately as of so far, this policy has yet to materialise as one would expect.
Further complicating matters, foreign state actors, such as Gaddafi, leader of the Libyan Arab Republic, have been implicated in supporting paramilitary forces against the US and her allies. It's been suggested that his goal is to destabilise Western power projection in the Middle East.
In more recent times, the IRA have expanded their area of operations beyond that of the British Isles. With attacks such as the assassination of Colonel Mark Coe outside of his home in Bielefield, Western Germany in February of 1980, and the bomb attack in Brussels, Belgium injuring four British soldiers the year prior.
Intelligence has noted the IRA has vastly expanded their contact portfolio in recent times in part due to a change of key people in command. It's been reported that the IRA has made contact with West German domestic terrorist groups, such as the Rote Armee Fraktion
Hoping to destabilise Britain's political position further, attacks have commenced almost regularly on British foreign assets and their host nations. This has had significant impact within Hong Kong, starting its departure as an overseas territory earlier than initially agreed with China.
Out of etiquette, and the British sense of solving ones problems caused, Britain has managed to secure temporary allowance with the Western German government in regards to conducting counter insurgency operations. West German ministers were reported as to sighing relief that they can postpone the possibility of putting German soldiers on German streets again – considered to be political suicide.Recent Events:
The Libyan registered vessel Claudia
originally bound for Ireland rerouted to Germany, following an attempted intercept by the Irish Naval Service. Intelligence believes there to be a significant weapons haul on-board. Unfortunately, due to bureaucratic practices blocking a timely search, by the time investigators boarded the ship, it was bare of any materiel - if it even had any to begin with. This is just one example of many failures in recent times, as the fractured European Intelligence community are unable to co-operate closer.
The expansion of the IRAs contacts as well as numerous and escalating attacks within Europe has spooked the MoD enough to reinforce British Forces of the Rhine bases. In recent months, the attacks have come to match that on the scale witnessed within Northern Ireland.
There have also been several raids on British armouries and supply depots throughout Europe, with notable equipment loses. Security has now been bolstered, and the raids largely subsided, but there is now a huge amount of British equipment in IRA circulation. Objectives:
- After disembarking at the Western Train Station, conduct a combat patrol to the base at Probien via the towns of Hagen and Schlagte.
- Reinforce the base at Probien, and make contact with the forces in situe for further tasking.
