Following the cowardly attack on Pearl Harbor, the Japanese have been waging war on us and our allies across the Pacific. Within months, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia have all fallen to advancing Jap forces. These defeats coupled with speedy Japanese advance enabled our enemy to threaten Australia. However, after successfully checking an enemy advance on Port Moresby, New Guinea, the US Navy decisively engaged the Japanese at the Battle of Midway: sinking 4 enemy carriers. The US now has the initiative, and has decided to employ it in the Solomon Islands.
On the morning of August 7 11,000 Marines have come ashore to seize the island of Guadalcanal and its strategically placed airfield (“Henderson Field”). Facing little resistance, we have advanced much. Most Japanese troops have retreated west of the Tenaru river, so command has decided to send out a patrol to sweep the west bank of the river and secure various strategic locations.
1. Reconnaissance has reported a possible Japanese encampment that could threaten the airfield. Secure it.
2. A friendly patrol on the east bank of the river has hauled resupply crates that we can use. Resupply there.
3. Japanese mortars have been firing at us, possibly from this village. Secure the village.
4. To successfully establish a perimeter around Henderson Field we will need control of this bridge. Secure the bridge.
