Last night Soviet troops rolled over the East-German border in a massive surprise attack. Though full invasion was not expected, SHAPE and SACEUR placed most NATO units on high alert following a breakdown in negotiations with the USSR. Commands expectations are realistic yet terrifying: should the Soviets push through Germany in 2 days or less, then NATO will be unable to deploy enough units to Europe to stop the Soviet advance before they reach the English channel. This would be disastrous and would probably lead to collapse of the Allied war effort.
Initiative lies on the enemy side, but thanks to the wise decision of Northern Army Group Command to be ready for war NATO might yet have a chance to stop the Soviet attack dead in its tracks. Part of the NORTHAG is the British Army of the Rhine which has been assigned the task of defending the German city of Hannover. Another key part of the BAOR is making sure the enemy isn't able to outflank the key harbour of Bremen, which is essential in rapidly deploying more units to Europe. Recent Events:
During fierce fights with Soviet spearheads in the Celle area British forces suffered majorly. Multiple units have been wiped out while fighting a hasty defence while others are in full retreat. The Soviet advance is still continuing and we have to delay them so that civilians may be evacuated and Royal Engineers can destroy the bridges over the Aller.
Our company has been hit especially hard, with seemingly only assorted units surviving. After a brief rendezvous at Bravo 3, we have been informed we need to maintain defense for as long as possible while slowly retreating towards Winsen. Should we fail, only light TA units stand between the south side of the river and the Soviets. Contact with a supporting tank troop to our north has been lost, and we may expect the worst. Objectives:
