Map: @cambodiaConflict Overview:
Japanese forces invaded British Burma in January 1942 from Thailand, cutting through the dense jungle and steep mountains, capturing Burma from a broken British force in April that year. British forces were only saved by the onset of the monsoon, preventing the Japanese from moving through the mud and torrential rain. Throughout the rest of 1942 and 1943 both Japanese and British forces were stretched too thin to conduct any large advance through Burma.
Although South East Asia Command remains a low priority to Allied planners, throughout 1943 and 1944 troops have received large amounts of equipment and training, and assaults into Burma have resumed. A Japanese invasion of India was beaten back, costing them tens of thousands of men and much more equipment.Recent Events:
British forces are advancing on the river Irrawaddy in central Burma, with the hopes of crossing north of Mandalay and surrounding the city. Advance British forces are being supplied by a domineering RAF while the Japanese conduct a sloppy defence. Japanese forces have erected defenses in multiple locations, and patrol the jungles, hoping to delay further British advance. Objectives:
