The Bosnian War started as a set of violent incidents in early 1992 that quickly escalted into war as a referendum for independence for the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina gives them their freedom.
Bitter war has been raging for the past 2 years, characterised by bitter fighting, ethnic cleansing and systematic mass rape mainly perpetrated by Serb, and to a lesser extent, Croat and Bosniak forces. Republic Srpska Army (RSA) forces and Bosnian troops both have sizeable forces in the region. UN forces have intervened to try protect the local population as best as they could from the atrocities committed but were struggling to keep the peace.
British forces under the codeword "Operation Grapple" have been deployed to the region to assist in the UNPROFOR peacekeeping mission. TWC Platoon forms a part of this British Contingent.Recent Events:
A recent UN aid convoy to a nearby refugee center located within a militia hotspot has lost contact with HQ.
A recent influx of refugees from the nearby town of Dubionki has indicated that the militia have stepped up their presence in the area.
NATO operations in the West have been coming into contact with well equipped and supplied formations of RSA troops.Intelligence:
-Intel suggests the UN aid convoy may have been intercepted by militia forces intent on stealing supplies and demonstrating their power in the region.
-NATO and UN troops fighting in the town of Shalaevo have intel that the forests East of Krasnye Seltsy contain a large Republic Srpska Army presence. One of their last strongholds in the area and crawling with their troops.
-A majority of the RSA troops have been deployed to fight NATO and Bosniak troops in the nearby town which suggests this may be a opportune time to deal a serious blow against the enemy.
-Enemy Forces are well equipped and dug in, thanks in part to Yugoslavian support. Use caution when approaching prepared enemy positions.
-Patrols, checkpoints and rebel ambushes are highly likely within the forests where NATO bombing efforts have had minimal effect. Stay vigilant. Objectives:Primary Objective
