Situation Outline: Operation Start: 07:00 02 Feb 1945 Current Weather: Overcast Future Weather: Clearing Map: (Winter) Merderet River
Conflict Overview: Despite Operation ‘Market Garden’ not delivering the intended early end to the war, it highlighted the importance of securing strong supply lines to the front line. Therefore, any bridge that could provide vital resupply/reinforcements support would be considered valuable real-estate to any force that could control it. The bridge at Chef-du-Pont provides one such crossing, providing an essential lifeline to the port of Antwerp where Axis forces are holding on and need to be removed so that large Allied ships can land and reduce the long supply lines from the French ports.
Recent Events: A large Axis force is heading towards Chef-du-Pont to provide essential reinforcement to the forces at Antwerp. Allied forces are getting bogged down with heavy fighting to the South and will not arrive in time to stop the crossing. After a number of failed attempts to bomb the bridge by air it has been decided to parachute a strike force West of the town and take and hold the town until Allied forces are able to relive them. Stopping any armour from crossing the river is their top priority. TWC Parachuted in at 01:00 and rested preparing to attack the town at first light.
Objectives: 1. Capture the Scout base at St Vexage 2. Capture the town of Chef-du-Pont* 3. Destroy the AA Guns at Chef-du-Pont 4. Provide a defense of the town and prevent any Armour from crossing the bridge (*Command will attempt to provide an air drop of supplies once the town is taken)
